Tale of Two Cities: BUDAPEST

Friday 30 December 2016

The capital city of Hungary. A place made up of two cities - Buda and Pest - Budapest.

Hősök tere featuring the seven chieftains of the magyars and other national leaders, as well as the tomb of the unknown soldier.

I was unsure if I should blog about this trip because I barely took any pictures or videos of the sites. I will make sure to give you a worthy travel blog (I might even vlog it) on my next adventure.

For now, I can only show you pictures that I have taken in some sites. The weather dropped up to -4℃ so it was a bit of a job taking the camera out - I'd rather have my hands in my pockets with my hot pack.

So my sister took a picture of me staring at a random art in the Place of Arts.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest.

Up the Buda Castle (in Hungarian: Budavári Palota) and the Castle district. It is a historicacastle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest.

Behind me is the Clark Adam Square, the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and the danube river. It may not be clear but it is visible in real life even with the fog - imagine on a clear day though. Budapest got such breathtaking views.

New York Cafe - but not in New York - apparently the most beautiful cafe in the world and I couldn't agree more! The food is delilcious. The ambiance is great. The music is played live. Everything is great.

Despite the cold weather, it is worth it going to Budapest around Christmas time because decorations are everywhere which makes the places beautiful.

The top picture is taken outside the Hungarian National Museum and the bottom picture is taken inside. Their exhibitions are so pretty and it teaches you the history of Budapest and Hungary. If you know me, museums are one of the things I love.

Up in the Citadella where it was snowing. It was so cold but snow is beautiful. The whole place looked like a winter wonderland. If you go up here in a clear day, you will be able to see Budapest from above but we went on a foggy day so *sigh* we can barely see the city. I call it worth though because of the beautiful snow - made my pictures instagram-worthy.

When you visit Budapest - you should try their trademark dish - GOULASH! I 100% recommend it. The beef is cooked so tenderly, the stew tasted so good, dip some ciabatta bread in it and *drools* you would want another bowl of goulash. It was piping hot but I devoured it in less than 10 minutes and I wanted some more but I ordered other dishes as well so my mom didn't let me have another bowl - "your eyes are bigger than your stomach".

And here is the process of me falling in love with it (taken from my snapchat so the quality is not good, sorry). We got the goulash from a restaurant called Varosliget Cafe & Restaurant and from here, you can see the Városligeti Műjégpálya which is the city park ice rink and the Vajdahunyad Castle. It is also situated beside the Hősök tere and the Palace of Arts which makes it very convenient if you wanna go to these places.

For accommodation, we stayed at an apartment managed by the Sweets Budapest Apartments and they gave us the one situated in Fovam Ter. I don't recommend it if you want a luxurious hotel/apartment but I personally liked it. My family always get an apartment when travelling because we can cook our own breakfast and food at night when we get hungry and this can save you a lot on food expense. The apartment is across the Aldi Superstore and a tour bus stop. It is also a 15-minute walk from the high street where the shopping stores are located.
