To the Middle Ages: STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

Tuesday 3 July 2018

A medieval market town in England and the birthplace of the famous English poet, William Shakespeare. We had a whole day to strut around this picturesque little town and discover some of Shakespeare's family homes.

WHERE WE ATE:

I am a sucker for Thai food so we went to this Thai restaurant called Giggling Squid.

WHERE WE WENT:

Now a list of places we visited. More information, tickets and passes here.

Shakespeare's Birthplace

Walking in Shakespeare's footsteps and exploring the house where he was born and grew up. Discover Shakespeare's influence through the centuries and see actors bring his works to life with speech and songs.

Shakespeare's New Place

Explore the site of Shakespeare's family home where he lived for 19 years.

Hall's Croft

Beautifully furnished Jacobean home of Shakespeare’s daughter Susanna and her husband, the physician John Hall. Wander into the tranquil walled garden and discover the fragrant medicinal herbs, as John Hall would have used in his remedies.

River Avon

The River Avon, also knows as Shakespeare's Avon. The river, one of the finest reaches for boating in the country, has remained virtually unchanged in all this time. It is still a real delight, a pleasure to be out on its peaceful waters.

Avon Boating offers a 40-minute river cruise on their famous fleet of Edwardian vessels.

Finally, stroll around the town...

...with ice cream on hand!

Extra tip: travel using the train and you get the 2-for-1 deal for the attractions.
